Nonprofit organization for young people that focuses on ensuring
equitable power in decision making spaces * several programs and projects available that support young people in London * access to leadership opportunities, municipal politics and decision-making,
asset-based community and project development and other placement or
training opportunities
Programs include:
Programs include:
- The London Youth Advisory Council - Self-governing council composed of 15 Youth Ward Councillors, aged 15-25 * council meets in round-table format to discuss and analyze issues, such as carding, public transit, school dress codes, income disparity and other issues their communities identify * community members welcome to attend council meetings * councillors elected in yearly citywide elections * councillors also attend community events, hold focus groups, interview local community leaders and facilitate community development projects
- Youth in Philanthropy - Committee of youth aged 13-25 that adjudicates on youth-focused grants through the London Community Foundation
- Young Leaders - Placement and training program for youth aged 18-24 * young leaders are placed on a nonprofit board of directors for up to 8 months to learn more about nonprofit governance, dynamic and team-based leadership and a variety of other skills
- Community Action Team - Application and team based program for young people to work together with staff to design and implement community projects based on gaps/needs in the community and through lived experiences
- Youth Connector Training - Training program for adults, mentors and service providers who work with young people * learning outcomes/objectives include: best practices for developing strong supportive relationships, ethical considerations and setting boundaries, basics of cultural competency and trauma-informed support, understanding the inter-sectional barriers young people face and making effective service referrals
