Description des services:
Provides advocacy services to Indigenous people involved in the Canadian justice system and assistance to understand their rights, options and responsibilities when appearing before the courts, including couples who are separating and parents involved in child welfare matters
- Assists Indigenous people to understand their rights to speak on their own behalf or legal counsel, to better understand the nature of any charges against them and the philosophy and functioning of the criminal justice system
- Responds to the problems and special needs caused by communication barriers which exist between Indigenous people and those who are involved
- Ensures Indigenous people in Ontario have access to the best available legal and justice-related services prior to, during and following a court appearance
