Description of Services
Provides services that promote physical and mental health for community members
Addresses individual health care needs by providing:
Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)
- Coordinates health care services through Nursing staff, 2 Community Health Representatives and visiting community Physician
- Provides health awareness and counselling, education and prevention workshops especially in the areas of diabetes and alcohol/drug abuse
- Coordinates clinics/workshops in areas that may include Diabetes, Immunization, Sexual Health and Communicable Diseases
- Offers a palliative care program when required
- Provides services of a First Response Vehicle
- Participates in teaching with a regular rotation of medical students and residents from Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM)
Addresses individual health care needs by providing:
- Advocacy on behalf of individual with other health professionals
- Coordination of one-on-one pre-natal care with the community health nurse
- Home visits to the sick, elderly, new mothers and persons with health care needs
- Suboxone program for individuals battling addictions to prescription painkillers
- Assistance with coordinating local and long distance travel arrangements for medical appointments
Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)
- Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
- Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
- Reduces the need to travel to receive care
- Participates in Thunder Bay's Regional Critical Care Response Program (RCCR) as a pilot site with other First Nation communities which enables patients to now be triaged and cared for by critical care doctors and other highly-skilled staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre's Intensive Care Unit via videoconferencing equipment prior to air transfer via Orng
