Tandem Helps

Free Transportation to Mental Health Support for Youth
To help individuals aged 16-25 living in rural Middlesex County access mental health and addiction support, the Road to Mental Health (RMH) program was established and offers free taxi services to and from the Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Centre in London for youth in crisis who reside in rural Middlesex.
As an essential health care service, RMH is always open and operational for those in need.
RMH is made possible through a partnership between MINDS of London-Middlesex, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley, and Checker Taxi. It is guided by a committee with members from Lucan Library, Middlesex Library, and Star Taxi.
HOW TO ACCESS:
- Individuals in need connect with Reach Out via phone, text or webchat at 519-433-2023 or www.reachout247.ca.*
- The Reach Out worker will assess the individual’s situation and if needed, they will connect them with a ride to the Crisis Centre via Checker Taxi. The taxi will come to the individual’s location, pick them and drive them to the Crisis Centre, located at 648 Huron Street in London. (The drivers involved in this program have received training developed by CMHA on mental health and crisis de-escalation as well as suicide prevention through Living Works.)
- Upon their arrival, the individual will receive adequate care and support, which could include assessment, supportive counselling and/or referrals to other services such as treatment, case management services, social and recreational activities, life skills development, vocational and housing supports, or withdrawal assessment.
- After the appointment is complete, Checker Taxi will give the individual a free ride home.

Do you have concerns about your child’s use of substances? You’re not alone. This free online support service is available 24/7 for anyone worried about the use of substances by a young person in their life. Call 1 866 381-1511
The Parent Support Hub gives you immediate, free access to care representatives who are available 24/7 to answer your questions and concerns about your child’s drug use, guiding you to relevant resources and immediate or schedule short term counselling tailored to your needs.
Whether you want to help a young person address their substance use, support their efforts to overcome problematic substance use, or simply need support through a challenging time, this free service can help guide you through the relevant information and resources available, and refer you to a mental health professional for family or individual counselling at no charge.
Care representatives will listen to your concerns, challenges, and problems and propose a course of action along with a list of helpful resources specific to your situation. They will also help you access a counsellor to provide immediate counselling support or schedule short term counselling sessions, together with your child or individually.

Health and social services for Indigenous communities are often a combination of traditional healing, primary care, cultural programs, health promotion programs, resource centres, community development initiatives, and social support services. Indigenous peoples are the descendants of the original inhabitants of North America, who identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
The three First Nations communities closest in proximity to Middlesex County and the City of London are: Chippewa of the Thames First Nation (part of the Anishinaabe); Oneida Nation of the Thames (part of the Haudenosaunee); and, Munsee-Delaware Nation (part of the Leni-Lunaape). Community Connectors are fundamental to helping Middlesex County families get connected to the services and supports they need. Local organizations are available to assist with housing, securing employment, education, accessing mental health and addiction services, food and clothing supports, social assistance and everything in between. Josh can help you every step of the way: from discovering which program may be best suited to your needs, to referrals and connections with that program, as well as compiling and completing required documentation.
