Description of Services
Program provides a community-based alternative to the court process for youth aged 12–17 who commit less serious offences, emphasizing education, accountability and restorative outcomes under the Youth Criminal Justice Act
- addresses offences such as shoplifting, vandalism, property damage, fraud, taking a motor vehicle without consent, minor assault and possession of a controlled substance
- works collaboratively with community agencies to support youth and families during times of identified need
- requires youth to accept responsibility for their actions as a condition of participation
- includes a behavioural contract that may outline curfews, school attendance, abstaining from substances, community service, restitution, counselling, written assignments or other appropriate conditions
- sets agreements for approximately three months, with extensions possible based on individual needs
- results in no charges being laid if the youth successfully completes the program; non-compliance results in charges proceeding to Youth Court
