Description of Services
Provides and administers culturally appropriate health programs and services to the member First Nation communities
- Promotes overall health and enhanced quality of life for community members
- Offers holistic health and social services that combine traditional values and cultural beliefs with modern practices
- Promotes spiritual, mental, emotional and physical well-being through a two-week program at the Healing Lodge
- Oversees the development of a full range of promotion, prevention and intervention services
- Ensures the needed resources are available in communities
- Provides services in the Anishinawbe language whenever possible
- Advocates for members in accessing services outside the community
- Works as an initiative to support collaborative planning between First Nation groups, agencies, provincial ministries and Health Canada to meet the health care needs of First Nations people
- Focus is on mental health and addictions services, especially prescription drug abuse
