Description of Services

The home dialysis program includes both home peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis * supports patients and their families in carrying out home-based dialysis independently, in the comfort of their home while monitored by a renal health care team

Home dialysis helps people achieve a higher quality of life with less frequent hospital visits and promotes a flexible, independent lifestyle

Patient Information:

  • Equipment and supplies are provided and delivered to the home. These costs are covered by the Ontario Ministry of Health
  • A team of nurses and renal technologists provide technical services and education so that treatment can be carried out at home
  • Increase in water and electricity costs may occur
  • Some modifications to the home may be required, but these costs are usually covered by the Ministry of Health

All home dialysis patients come to Brampton Civics' home dialysis clinic about every six weeks, for assessment by the renal team and treatment is modified if necessary

In case of difficulties, support from a home dialysis nurse and a renal technologist are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week
