• Administers health promotion and disease prevention programs
• Promotes the health of the communities served by enabling people to increase control over the determinants of health
• Prevents the occurrence and spread of disease and reduces resulting disability
• Protects the health of the community by eliminating or reducing health hazards
• Collaborates with individuals, service providers, organizations, agencies and other health units
• Promotes equitable access to health programs and services
• Participates in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education
• Participates in evaluation and research to address current community questions and issues, including the dissemination and incorporation of results into programs and services
