Community Services and Supports in Middlesex County



For the range of community services and support available for your family, visit Middlesex Family Connections main page. The Middlesex Family Connections portal was designed to support Middlesex families in accessing information about family-centered programs and services in Middlesex County.  Whether you are seeking information on child care, speech & language services, mental health supports, municipal recreation facilities or other family-centered supports and services, you will find what you need here.

Below are some community services and supports that may be beneficial to your child’s school transition.  
 

Eye See, Eye Learn

Eye See, Eye Learn (external link) program begins in July of each year and support children entering into any junior or senior kindergarten program. To participate in the program the eye exam must be with a participating optometrist.  If required, the program will provide one pair of glasses per child courtesy of our participating optometrists and corporate partners.

Speech and Language

tykeTALK offers programs for children in the Thames Valley region from birth to school-age with speech and/or language difficulties. It is a partnership of service provider agencies. tykeTALK focuses on early identification of speech and language problems. Assessment and therapy, if indicated, are provided by registered Speech-Language Pathologists. Many programs are based in neighbourhoods across the region.

Consider completing the communication checklist developed by tykeTALK. If there are one or more behaviours not checked off or if you have concerns, call tykeTALK at 519-663-0273 for more information or to have the child assessed by a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

Specialized Supports

A parent’s and child’s needs differ from family to family. You may need services that are culturally appropriate, offered in a particular language, treat a particular disease or condition, or provide some financial assistance or basic need. Specialized supports are available for children with disabilities whether these are physical, developmental, mental or emotional challenges.
