Middlesex County Library Programs



Library Storytimes

Children, along with their parents and caregivers will enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and fun! 

Registration or Drop-in: Drop-in. However, please note that some special storytimes may require advanced registration.

Program Details: Each program is approximately 30 minutes in length. Library storytimes are offered in various library branch locations in Middlesex County.  Many library branches offer regular reoccurring storytimes (external link). Some library branches offer special storytimes. For special storytimes, and to check for cancelations or rescheduled events, please refer to the Middlesex County Library online Event Calendar (external link).

Kindergarten Socials

An opportunity for children entering Junior or Senior Kindergarten to meet with their peers as well as an opportunity for caregivers to network.  Activities planned help children develop skills and behaviours important to the school transition. Children as well can enjoy free play using creative materials and toys. The program ends with a circle time (songs and stories). Caregivers can engage in conversations on a variety of learning and development topics with an EarlyON Facilitator trained in Early Childhood Education.

Registration or Drop-in: Registration. For Middlesex County residents only.

Program Details: Each program is 90 minutes in length. Programs are offered in the evening through August.  Kindergarten socials are offered in various library branch locations in Middlesex County.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten - COMING SOON

Reading has been associated as an early indicator of academic success. Before school, parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the critical early years.  

The 1000 Books Foundation is a Nevada non-profit public charity which operates the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early literacy challenge in the USA and Canada.  The goal is to have read 1,000 books before a child starts kindergarten.  The objectives of the program are to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and to encourage parent and child bonding through reading.  

Registration or Drop-in: Registration. For Middlesex County residents only.

Program Details: Families that register for the program are provided with tracking tools to help monitor their progress, or they can access an application to support monitoring. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before a child starts kindergarten.  Middlesex County Library offers incentives at various milestones.

Children's Book Collection

Middlesex County Library has available a variety of children's books available to borrow on a variety of topics important to school transition.

A library card is free for all residents of Middlesex County. To register for a card, please visit a Middlesex County Library branch during open hours. Please bring with you a piece of photo identification and proof of address (examples include your driver's license or photo health card or passport and a bill in your name or student card and report card). A parent or legal guardian needs to sign the library card registration form for their child up to and including age 13.

Community Connectors

Middlesex County Library Branches are trusted Community Connectors as they acts as hubs for informaiton, supports and services for families and service providers. Library Branch staff and/or EarlyON facilitators are knowledgeable and trusted professionals equipped to help connect Middlesex families to the services and supports they need. Staff are able to provide families with informaiton on services including whom and how to connect and key resources relevant to the service or support.

You can connect with a Community Connector through:

Virtual: connect by phone or email  For caregivers with children 0-6 years of age you can connect with a Middlesex EarlyON Facilitator. Call 519-666-3227 or email earlyon@middlesex.ca. Or you can visit a Middlesex EarlyON program.
