Description des services:

Youth Diversion Program offers an alternative to formal court proceedings for youth (ages 12–17) who commit less serious offences. It supports early intervention, accountability, and restorative outcomes under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (as an Extra Judicial Measure).

Eligible Offences Include:
  • shoplifting, vandalism, property damage
  • fraud, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • minor assault, drug possession

Program Overview:
  • a youth officer schedules an intake meeting
  • parent/guardian attendance is encouraged
  • Youth signs a contract outlining behaviour expectations
  • conditions may include curfew, school attendance, community service, counselling, restitution, and more
  • duration: typically 3 months (can be extended if needed)
  • successful completion: no charges are laid
  • non-compliance: program ends, and charges proceed to Youth Court

The program works with local community agencies to support youth and families during this critical time.
