Description of Services

Supports for older adults, and adults with disabilities * helps people remain independent for as long as possible
  •  
  • Adult Day Program Adult day program * social, recreational, and therapeutic activities for adults and adults with disabilities in a group setting for part of the day * helps to support family caregivers who provide day-to-day care
  •  
  • Blood Pressure Clinic Trained volunteers measure seniors' blood pressure and provide educational materials and information on how to be more heart-healthy
  •  
  • Congregate Dining Group meals and social activities for older adults and adults with disabilities
  •  
  • Falls Prevention and Group Exercise Classes for Older Adults Group exercise and falls prevention classes for older adults and people with mobility issues and chronic conditions * aims to improve strength and balance to prevent injury and falls
  •  
  • Home Help Assistance with daily chores, such as laundry, light housekeeping, errands, shopping, meal planning and meal preparation * home help personnel visit weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or seasonally
  •  
  • Meals On Wheels Volunteers deliver hot or frozen meals to clients to help meet their nutritional requirements and provide security checks and social visits * hot meals delivered at lunch
  •  
  • Telephone Reassurance and Security Checks Regular visits and phone calls to check on the health and safety of older adults and adults with a disability people who live alone * screened volunteers listen, talk, and help isolated people stay in contact with the outside world
  •  
  • Transportation Services Non-emergency transportation to local medical and non-medical appointments and regular activities such as shopping, errands, and social outings * volunteer drivers * wheelchair accessible and ambulatory transportation is available in Dorchester, London, Thorndale and surrounding areas
  •  
  • Volunteer Visiting Regular volunteer visits to older adults and adults with disabilities * volunteer visitors are matched one to one with clients to provide companionship and support and may take place in-home or outside the home
