Description of Services

Genetic Counselling Program
  • Provides information to individuals and families who are affected by or at-risk for inherited and/or genetic conditions
Offers several services, including:
  • Arranging and interpreting genetic laboratory test results
  • Assessment and diagnosis of genetic disorders
  • Discussion of the chance of developing and passing the disorder on
  • Information about the ways in which it may be prevented or helped
  • Participation in education and research
  • Provision of medical information and advice about genetic disease or condition to people at risk of a disorder that might be hereditary

Genetics Clinics
  • Holds clinics four to five times per year when one or two consulting geneticists visit Thunder Bay
  • Offers videoconferencing during the times between each clinic, if an urgent referral is needed
