First Nations communities already involved with Dilico Child Welfare services by having stated that Dilico is to care for the child in question on its behalf

Description of Services

Customary Care (Mikinaak Model)

Refers to the traditional practice of placing/raising a child outside the home but within the First Nation community
All members of the family, extended family, relatives and community are involved with planning for the child but Dilico maintains the responsibility to care for the child

Kinship Service

Provides services for children who cannot be cared for in their home but are not in the care of Dilico
Refers to the full-time care and nurturing of a child by a relative, extended family member, a member of the child's community or another adult with whom the child has a significant relationship
The Kinship Service caregiver works collaboratively with Dilico staff to develop and carry out plans of service for the child
